The Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad, is an Institution of National Importance, created by an Act of the Parliament of India. RCB was established by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, under the auspices of UNESCO, with the mandate of providing world-class education, training and research at the interface of multiple disciplines in biotechnology. RCB is also regarded as a "Category II Centre" in terms of "the principles and guidelines for the establishment and functioning of UNESCO Institutes and Centres";

ORCB has been running academic research programmes in biotechnology (Ph.D., integrated Ph.D. and MSc) for several years. The academic and research programmes at RCB are designed to create opportunities for students to engage in multi-disciplinary research, wherein they learn biotechnology while integrating engineering, medicine and science, to provide solutions for human and animal health, agriculture and environmental technologies. The mission of the Centre is to create opportunities for multi-disciplinary education, training and research in biotechnology. The vision is to produce globally competitive human resources tailored to drive innovation in biotechnology, particularly emergent areas of opportunities and to fill the talent gaps in deficient areas. RCB also awards degrees in higher education in biotechnology and allied sciences to a growing list of leading research institutions in the country through academic affiliations.
