This facility is made to grow transgenic rice and other plants that require climatic conditions. Transgenic plants are not allowed to grow outside and hence this facility is very essential for functional genomic studies of plants and also to develop climate resilient plants. At regional centre for Biotechnology a greenhouse with a total of 2100 sq.ft was used to build two rooms (580 sq.ft) each for plant growth and a processing unit. This greenhouse is a hybrid of both pan & pad system and air conditioning system to maintain the temperature at 24-30 0 C throughout the year in NCR Delhi climate. The plants that are proposed to be grown is, transgenic rice, tomato, pea plants etc. The greenhouse includes the equipment’s for heating, cooling, lighting, with the electrical panel to optimize conditions for plant growth. The researchers at RCB utilizes this facility to understand the gene function analysis and develop drought and disease resistant plants.
