Cell Culture Facilities
The mammalian cell culture facility is located in a dedicated clean room at RCB being shared by all users. The facility consists of multiple biosafety/ laminar flow hoods, CO2 incubators, liquid and vapour phase nitrogen cry-storage systems, cell culture microscopes, a basic fluorescence microscope, centrifuges, water baths, refrigerators, etc. The facility can be expanded depending on user volume. The incubators are supported by a UPS system, while an air curtain at the entrance, an air purifier in the room and dedicated air conditioning for the room minimize chances for undesired contamination.
A separate room for cell culture is being developed for viral transfections. This room will be used both for eukaryotic protein over-expression studies using baculoviral expression in insect cells, as well as for plasmid and shRNA expression in mammalian cells using lentiviral vectors for achieving stable expression. The room will have dedicated hoods and incubators.
